The Portland Panthers were one of 20 teams competing in the inaugural Best of the West 7-on-7 passing tournament in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, hosted by Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation.
The two-day event began on Friday with pool play, then transitioned to championship play on Saturday. Of the 20 schools, 10 were from Kentucky, nine from Tennessee and one from Indiana.
Portland went 1-4 in pool play with a 37-28 win over Evansville Harrison, IN. The Panthers fell to eventual champion Pearl-Cohn, runner-up Hopkinsville, KY, Clarksville High School and South Laurel, KY.
In the play-in game before heading into the championship bracket, the Panthers dropped a 35-16 contest to Corbin, KY before falling 22-4 to Evansville Harrison, IN in the consolation bracket to wrap up the weekend.
