Lady ‘Cats & Panthers win big —

PORTLAND — Visiting Wilson Central split a pair of District 9-AAA contests with host Portland Friday.

Wilson Central’s girls won the opener 41-24 while the Panthers clamped down on the defensive end for a 57-39 victory over Wilson Central’s boys.
Friday’s opener found the Lady Wildcats (12-5, 3-3) taking a commanding 27-7 lead into intermission.

Portland (3-12, 0-6) shot just 17 percent from the field and slipped to 3-12 overall, 0-6 in District 9-AAA.

The Lady Wildcats held Portland to just 17 percent shooting from the field in the win.

Sydnee Richetto and Nicole Brill led Wilson Central with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Wilson Central’s boys struggled to score in the nightcap, as Portland held their guests to just 19 points through the first three quarters of play.
Portland (8-9, 2-4) opened the game 8-1, and used an 11-0 run to build a 31-11 lead going into the half.

The Panthers pushed the lead to as many as 31 points before Wilson Central (8-10, 2-4) would get their offense going in the fourth quarter.

The Wildcats scored 20 points in the final eight minutes, but it was too little, too late.

Seth Beck led the scoring for Wilson Central with 11 points.

Wilson Central continues their road on Tuesday, Jan. 15 when they travel to neighboring Mt. Juliet before visiting Hendersonville Friday, Jan. 18.
