Portland volleyball standout Marlayna Bullington can add another honor to her ever growing list of accomplishments.

Last week, the junior was named to the High School All-American team.

The website started paying attention last fall to state Gatorade Player of the Year Awards winners, all-state selections and any player making a massive impact on a high school volleyball team.
There were 150 players named to the first team all American squad while Bullington made one of the three honorable mentioned teams.

Out of thousands of high school volleyball players throughout the United States, there were 575 players picked to the prestigious list.

“I didn’t know about such a list,” Bullington said Sunday night. “There were only a few players from Tennessee selected.”

It’s been three months since Bullington and the Lady Panther volleyball squad won the Class AA title over Knoxville Catholic.

The impact is still being felt throughout the Portland area.

“People in the community will congratulate you if they know you play volleyball,” Bullington said. “You don’t realize the impact winning a state championship has on your community.”

Bullington already has a long list of awards including all district tournament MVP two years in a row and Most Valuable Player of the state tournament in October as well as team MVP and was selected to the Tennessean all Mid state team in December.

Bullington is already preparing for next years’ season by participating in tournaments including a National Beach tournament in California in July. Bullington and her teammate won the event in 2017.
